Parelli Demonstration at Stretcholt Farm 14th July

A new venue for us and we were made most welcome.

Alison and David gave the demonstration with Orange and Grey. Alison introduced the first half, explaining that the Parelli Method is a Foundation Training Program, using seven games to communicate with horses. Both demonstrated each game as Alison described it, giving a great overview of the method for new students and even more insights for established students.

Watching the way Alison and David effortlessly incorporate every game into their interaction with their horses is fascinating.

Before breaking for a short interval, Alison invited six other instructors who were attending, to introduce themselves to the audience. They were, 1* instructor, Sarah Watson from East Devon, 2* instructor, Steph Guant from Somerset, 1* instructor, Tori Garnsworthy from Devon, Trainee 1* instructors Paul and Emily Titcomb from South Devon and 1* instructor, Sally Webb from Somerset. All were available during the interval to give advice and guidance to spectators.

When everyone returned to their seats, David took the microphone and introduced the second half of the evening. This time giving an overview of freestyle riding, with emphasis on the need to train ourselves not to brace, and therefore allow the horse not to feel trapped or become defensive.Whilst acknowledging that this is not easy for everyone, Alison and David demonstrated, by riding without bridles or halters on their horses, that with the correct preparation, it is possible to achieve a partnership where neither feel the need to brace.

Alison put the bridle back on Orange and gave a short display of dressage movements to show how a good foundation, can lead into specialisation.

Finally, the evening was rounded off with a mini competition between Alison and David over a few obstacles and tasks, always putting the relationship first, of course.

Stretcholt Farm is an excellent venue and we are very grateful to Wendy for allowing us to use the facilities. David Lichman will be holding a three day clinic there on 23rd/24th/25th August and Sarah Watson has been invited to run some workshops and clinics there in the future.

"There is something about this place where you can be immersed and surrounded by great horsemanship. Live it, breath it, watch it, feel it, getting away from usual distractions, and laughs, did I mention the laughing? I for one will be back many times."
